A PENNY ON THE COUNTER

A PENNY ON THE COUNTER - by Daniel Merriweather

Angels are dying but nobody notices.
Just out the back, one of them passed.

Two days ago my phone rang,
On the other end of the line was a man who spoke french

He had a story to tell me about the war,
Sure enough it ended in a joke about his penis.
Honestly my mind is numb now after wanting so much" he said.

There was a penny on the counter at the corner store
It looked just like a rusty nail head.

What a day here in freedom.
